Award-Winning Journalism

Congratulations to our KDH journalists for winning 9 individual awards from the Texas Managing Editors Conference!

General Column Writing: Limiti won first place for his weekly column known as “Inside City Hall.” The column runs every Sunday in the Herald’s opinion section and explores the goings on at Killeen City Hall.

Star Opinion Writer of the Year: Herald Deputy Managing Editor-Opinion, Dave Miller, picked up second place in the Star Opinion Writer of the Year category, one of the major awards at the conference. Miller writes the Sunday Editorials that appear in the Herald.

Community Service: This award was for Limiti’s extensive coverage of the Featherline Road issues in 2024, when many south Killeen residents ventured to City Hall to voice their displeasure at the City Council giving the green light on construction to hundreds of new homes while seeming to do little on the road infrastructure. The city eventually pledged about $11 million to expand Featherline Road and build a new turning lane.

Star Reporter of the Year: Limiti’s strong reporting in covering the City of Killeen earned him accolades from the Texas Headliner’s Foundation.

Sports Column Writing: Bob Maindelle, who writes a column about fishing, placed third.

Headline Writing: Artie Phillips, the Herald’s copy desk chief, placed third in the Headline Writing category. Phillips also took home third place for DESIGNER OF THE YEAR, another major award at the conference.

General Column Writing: Erik Walsh, the Herald’s Copperas Cove editor, earned an “Honorable Mention” for his column, which appears once a month in the Copperas Cove Herald and Harker Heights Herald editions.

Video: The Killeen Daily Herald also received an “Honorable Mention” in the Video category.
